Spring
Break comes but once a year, so head to the hottest Spring Break destination
in the United States for Texas-size fun -- South Padre Island! Our Island
resort in the Gulf of Mexico offers bigger beaches and more fun for your
money. It's the Texas-size party of the year with 34 miles of sizzling
beaches and 125,000 party-starved revelers.
Did
you know that South Padre Island is farther south than most other Spring
Break destinations in the United States? Put your finger on a globe and
check it out for yourself.. That means there is more tropical sunshine,
balmy breezes and sun-drenched days on South Padre Island than just about
anywhere.
If that's not HOT enough for you, take a trip across the border for a
spicy taste of Mexico (via car, shuttle or taxi). Salsa on down to Matamoros
or Nuevo Progreso (about 30 minutes and 60 minutes respectively) for some
of the HOTTEST fajitas and COLDEST drinks along the border. Shop till
you drop in the mercados, where you'll find bargains on silver jewelry,
sandals, handwoven blankets, sombreros, leather goods, pewter, glasswear,
and other Mexican crafts. Just don't drink the water! (Take a bottle of
H20 with you.) Customs is usually pretty laid back as long as you play
by the rules. A valid driver's license or voter's registration card normally
suffice as proof of U.S. citizenship.
Once you're back on South Padre, get ready to party! Fun in the South
Texas sun is what Spring Break is all about. During Spring Break, the
Island becomes a floating party paradise of beach obstacle courses, three-on-three
basketball tournaments, beach volleyball tournaments, bikini contests,
and sun-starved college coeds catching some serious rays!
When the sun goes down, get ready for a wild night on the town! South
Padre Island boasts some of the largest and most exciting dance clubs
in the southern hemisphere. Live concerts, hip DJ's and free giveaways
guarantee a great time for everyone. To get you home safely, South Padre
Island and several local clubs offer free buses that operate until the
wee hours of the morning.
How do you get to the sandy shores of South Padre Island? It's easy. If
you're traveling by car, take Interstate Highway 37 south from San Antonio
to U.S.. Highway 77. Head south on U.S. 77 until you hit Texas Highway
100. Then, head east on Highway 100 until your feet get wet. If you're
traveling the skyways, fly into the Brownsville/South Padre Island International
Airport (in Brownsville) or Valley International Airport (in Harlingen)
on one of more than 26 daily flights. Both airports are a short drive
from the Island. Choose from American Eagle, Continental or Southwest
airlines.
